Abstract
The article discusses the issue of horizontal public electronic marketplaces that operate on the international scale. The main objective of the research was to identify the functions and services provided to enterprises by an electronic market. The research method used was a case study of the largest electronic horizontal public e-marketplace named Alibaba.com. The technique used in the purpose of collecting data was the observation of the e-market’s Website. The analysis showed, that functions and services offered by the e-marketplace support every stage of a transaction. The researched e-marketplace provides its users with information in the pre-transactional stage, enables communication between sellers and buyers and increases transaction safety. The services offered are highly customized. The electronic marketplace provides the greatest value for enterprises looking for new markets and new sources of supply.
