Abstract
By joining the European Union, Poland has undertaken to align its legislation with EU requirements. In terms of water management was a major determinant of the Water Framework Directive. Poland already in 2001 introduced the first legislation to adjust Polish law to EU requirements in this field. The obligation of physical adjustments of the water and sewer system rested on the main level and the municipalities. The aim of the study was to present the development of water and sewage infrastructure in Kujawsko-Pomorskie, in connection with the requirements of the Water Framework Directive. The study also paid attention to the role of aid from the EU to respond rapidly to adapt to the requirements of the WFD. The analyzes carried out revealed that the measures taken in the different municipalities of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie, aimed at achieving the objectives of the WFD, are satisfactory. It was a marked improvement in the availability and quality of infrastructure related to water supply and sewerage. At the same time pointed out that in some communities there are still some shortcomings (mainly in the sewers), which will have to be eliminated in the coming years.
