Abstract
This article discusses the problem of the contemporary financial crisis. At the beginning has been made the theoretical interpretation of this problem, and then presents the practical effect of this phenomenon on the economic situation in Europe and in Poland. It shows the impact of the global economic crisis on the implementation of the Maastricht convergence criteria by Poland and an assessment and analysis of the countrys entry perspectives into the euro zone. At the and were described the issues of EU initiatives how to eliminate the negative effects of global crisis.
