Abstract
The aim of the publication was to analyze the level of expenditure on research and development activities and the financing structure of R&D investments in European countries, Japan, the United States of America and South Korea. The CSO of Poland and Eurostat data are used in the analysis, between years 2000-2010. Cluster analysis used to group countries with regard to the financing structure of R&D. To the leading countries in this respect belong Luxemburg, Finland, Denmark and Sweden. In Poland, the expenditure on R & D is one of the lowest in Europe. Furthermore, the financing structure of R & D is far from satisfactory.
